Buildbase’s support for local, grassroots football has come to life in a renovated clubhouse for Wick FC in Gloucestershire.
The club – which won a competition for £20,000 of building materials and support organised by Buildbase and the Daily Mirror newspaper in 2014 – opened up its clubhouse renovation project with a special open evening staged for the local community (see photo above).
Local residents and councillors were among the guests at the open evening, where they were able to view the clubhouse refurbishment and completion of an outdoor multi-use games area.
Dave Beer, acting secretary and vice-chairman at the club said: “Three years ago our buildings were in a poor state and winning the Buildbase competition was the start of a complete refurbishment, combined with help from the council and other donations.” Mr Beer was instrumental along with club treasurer, Matt Davies, and chairman John Towler in achieving improved facilities for the club.
Kyle Chesterman, Buildbase Regional Manager – Western Region, attended the event and said: “By supporting grassroots football we are strengthening our relationship with the communities it benefits.”
Buildbase recently announced its sponsoring of the non-league football Buildbase FA Trophy and Buildbase FA Vase competitions. As part of its two-year sponsorship, the company is also funding a Building Renovation Programme comprising a £200,000 product bursary to help a total of four non-league clubs to improve their facilities.
The first non-league clubs to benefit from the product bursary, which will include building, electrical and hire products, are currently being shortlisted.
For the winning clubs, local Buildbase branches across England and Wales will be supporting them with information and advice and supplying the building products required for a renovation project. Click here to find out more about the Buildbase FA Sponsorship
