Stowmarket Town FC unveils brilliant renovation project

In 2019 Stowmarket Town FC scored one of the top prizes in the Buildbase £100K Transfer Deal.

Two years on, and working against the odds during the pandemic, they have managed to totally transform their facilities at Greens Meadow.

The £25,000 worth of building, electrical and hire materials has been put to good use, with one big project involving all areas of the club.

Stowmarket Town has a new Buildbase match day entrance as well as a refurbished bar, large commercial kitchen and community outdoor area. Improvements also include a new committee room, which can be hired out to local charity groups and a redeveloped hall for functions. There are also lots of facilities to improve access for disabled people.

As part of the Buildbase £100K Transfer Deal pitch day at Wembley Stadium, judges from the FA and Buildbase praised Stowmarket Town for having a clear long-term vision and ambition.

This is clear in the end result, which is helping to meet the club’s objective to ‘build to invest to grow’. This year they hope the transformation will attract many more people into the club to enjoy the facilities, enabling it to grow even further.

Stowmarket Town is delighted with the improvements, which have all been made possible by the Buildbase bursary and lots of hard work.

One of the club’s directors John Griffin said, “Applying for the bursary is one of the most exciting things we’ve ever done…It’s such a great thing for us, especially over Covid as well, it gave us a chance to come back and show everybody that we’re here as a club. To come in and enjoy the football but also enjoy the rest of our facilities.”

This year Buildbase launched a Community Club Award with two top prizes of £25,000 in building materials for non-league football clubs that have gone above and beyond to support their local community through the pandemic.

The winners were announced last week and congratulations go to Shildon AFC and Pontefract Collieries FC. We look forward to catching up with the clubs about their plans over the coming months.
